Why should I take on a Coach?

If you are reading this, you are, at the very least, inquisitive about what a coach can offer to you personally or to your business. From junior club sport in your local town to professional sports stars touring on the world circuit, having a coach is accepted, even expected. Why then do we often overlook the benefits of having a coach that guides us in both our business endeavours and our personal lives?

Knowing where you want to be in ten years and also knowing what you have to do today underpin your chances of success. Having your own personal coach will help you identify what’s important and will keep you focused on achieving your goals. This in turn will increase and accelerate your success.

So, what exactly does a coach do?

A good coach will create a safe environment in which you see yourself more clearly. They will help you identify the gaps between where you currently are and where you need or want to be. Coaches will demand intentional thought, action and behavioural changes of you and will provide the structure, support and importantly, the accountability that is required to ensure your commitment to your success.

Innovative companies understand that coaching can help their staff across all levels of the organisation to increase their performance at work. Coaching is no longer just for the executives. A recent study by the ICF and HCI shows that 60% of respondents from organisations with strong coaching cultures report their revenue to be above the average, when compared to their peer group.

Simply put, a coach will help you achieve and enhance your success. How much is that worth to you?

What types of Coaching are there.

Coaching can be broadly categorised in two parts.

Business Coaching and Life Coaching

While the underpinning philosophy is indeed very similar between both categories; helping people adopt new ideas and beliefs that lead to greater success and happiness, there are also very distinct differences between the two.

A life coach will work with you in creating a more satisfying life. This will be achieved by:

       * bringing you clarity and focus around your goals and aspirations

       * helping you discover and develop the passion and motivation  to bring them to fruition.

       * holding you accountable to the aspirations you possess.

A business coach works with organisations to:

       * maximise the potential of their teams and their leaders.

       * provide group coaching for team building

       * individual coaching for leaders and high performers.

At an organisational level coaches may be engaged full-time, on fixed contract or even on an ‘as needed’ basis. The latter usually to address an immediate need to rectify a stuck state quickly and efficiently.
